Team Life Without Lupus® Completes NYC Half Marathon

It was a cold and windy morning, but that did not stop Team Life Without Lupus from taking the challenge of running through Manhattan in the New York Road Runners Half Marathon on Sunday, March 16th. Our eight runners completed the 13.1-mile route raising awareness for lupus in their bright orange singlets.

The Team raised thousands to help fund novel research and services at the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation in New York City, as well as the national organization, the Lupus Research Insitute. S.L.E. Lupus Foundation staff and volunteers along with supporting family and friends cheered on the team as they exited Central Park at the 10K mark.

Team Life Without Lupus member, Mary Molnar, completed 13.1 miles for her first time in honor of her good friend, Brianna, with lupus. “Running for Team Life Without Lupus was an amazing experience. Thinking of those suffering with lupus helped keep my mind off the pain while running,” said Mary.

Mary has always been an athlete, but was determined this year to complete a half marathon. In getting ready to join our Team Life without Lupus, she participated in our training workshop program led by Coach Scott Cohen. Friends kept her going on the side lines during the race and she was greeted by her 7 siblings and parents at the finish line.

Mary’s training certainly paid off, completing the course in two hours and four minutes. She finished the race with a burst of energy. “I was honored to cross the finish line for such an amazing charity.”
