Congratulations to our Board Member Jessye Norman for NAACP Award
All of us at the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation send congratulations to our Board Member Jessye Norman for recognition from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). The Grammy award-winner opera and jazz singer received the NAACP’s highest honor last week: the Spingarn Medal for outstanding and noble achievement by an American citizen of African descent. Here is Miss Norman addressing a crowd of hundreds at the Plaza Hotel for S.L.E. Lupus Foundation’s annual New York Bag Ladies Luncheon. We are so fortunate that she has shared her amazing voice at many of our events – truly inspirational. We thank Miss Norman for all that she does to help raise awareness of lupus as a serious disease that disproportionately affects African American women. We concur with the NAACP in their acknowledgment of her contributions to the African American community as well as the lupus community.
