Autoimmunity and Lupus Headline Today’s Washington Post Supplement

Lupus got major ink in a supplement devoted to autoimmune disease in the Washington Post June 12 newspaper.  The need for improved diagnosis of lupus and other autoimmune diseases was highlighted by our Executive Director Margaret Dowd in a feature article on the Lupus Initiative, a new federal program training healthcare professionals to recognize and treat the disease promptly. The e-edition also includes an in-depth interview with Margaret on how lupus research at the LRI is going for the cure.

The Lupus Initiative was conceived of by our national organization, the Lupus Research Institute (LRI) in collaboration with the U.S. Office of Minority Health. Over the past several years, the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation along with other local members of the LRI National Coalition of patient advocates, came to DC every year to educate their legislators about lupus and secured millions in federal funding to make the Initiative possible.
