Gala 2006 Raises $2.8 Million for the Fight Against Lupus This year's S.L.E. Lupus Foundation "Life Without Lupus" Gala raised more than $2.8 million—a national record for funds collected at a single event to nurture research, support education, and provide services for people with lupus, a chronic and often debilitating autoimmune disease. More than 750 supporters attended the December 4th gala at the Marriott Marquis in New York's Times Square, which honored James D. Robinson III, chairman of the board of Bristol-Myers Squibb, and featured appearances by Bob Costas and Broadway legend Barbara Cook. In January 2007, the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation marks
the opening of its third community outreach
center—the Lupus Cooperative of New York (LCNY),
this time in Brooklyn. This easily
accessible walk-in location at the state-of-the-art
Wellness, Recreation and Athletic
Center on Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus
in downtown Brooklyn will serve the nearly
2.5 million residents of New York's most populous
borough. |
