What's NewHave You Seen the Ad Council’s “Could I Have Lupus?” Campaign? We partnered with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health to get real-life “diary” stories of young women with lupus and shape the message that’s starting to appear nationwide on buses and trains, television and radio, billboards and Web sites, and other venues.Check it out and tell us what you think on Facebook! The campaign’s goal: to capture the attention of young women who are unaware that the symptoms they are experiencing may be those of lupus, and that they should pose the question to their doctors: “Could I have lupus?” The Web site [www.couldihavelupus.gov], and a toll-free number [800-994-9662] direct people looking for services and more information to specialists and local resources.
As Foundation Executive Director, Margaret Dowd, said in her speech at the launch of the campaign in Washington, D.C., on March 31st, “this campaign is a long-needed breakthrough to raise awareness about lupus. And now our job is to ensure that women who ask that key question—‘Could I Have Lupus?’—are answered by physicians and health care providers with a solid understanding of the disease, who know when to say: “You could have lupus. Let’s check it out.” Foundation lupus advocate Heide Wilson also spoke at the D.C. launch event, telling her story of living with lupus. You can read about her in our latest “Living with Lupus” interview. Are You Holding On to Your Purse? The Bag Ladies Are Coming to New York!
