illness. Today, with its west coast division, Lupus LA, and its national research

the Foundation is improving lives across the
country while pioneering paths to a cure.

Lupus and the Risk for Diabetes:
What You Need to Know
A chronic illness that has a tendency to develop along
with lupus is Type 2
diabetes.
Your risk for diabetes rises if you are obese, have a diet high
in fats and sugars, don't get regular exercise, have a family history
of diabetes, or are 45 or older.
For people with lupus, another risk factor for
diabetes is taking the medicine prednisone, a powerful corticosteroid
drug.
